Age: Nothing but a Number!
Let’s talk about young women and prolapse.
Let’s talk about young women and prolapse.
Pelvic Organ Prolapse is literally a situation where the muscles of the pelvic floor let you down. It's another consequence of a weakened or damaged pelvic floor. As the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments holding the organs in place weaken, the bladder - or the uterus or the rectum - may begin to bulge down into the vagina creating this hernia-like condition.
Recently, I saw a 36 year old female, with complete uterine vaginal prolapse, stress incontinence and urgency. Shortly, after her diagnosis she underwent surgery and is now 5 months post operation. She is back to work, lifting 70 lbs. She no longer suffers from stress or urge incontinence, and no more pain during intercourse.
Her only complaint is that she did not take care of her problem earlier. Yes, she is 36 years young. Keep one thing in mind; women of all ages can have pelvic floor problems.
Don’t be shy to discuss your problem, no matter how old you may be!
