One of the first signs that something was wrong with Dad was the strange conversations he would start in the late afternoon.  "Sundowner's" is a sympton of both Alzheimer and other forms of dementia that causes confusion after “sundown.”   Test for Alzheimers were negative but he was diagnosied with Parkingson's.

Not all  who suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s exhibit Sundowner’s and conversely, some people show symptoms of dementia all day which grows increasingly worse in the late afternoon and evening.   Others, like my Dad, may exhibit no symptoms at all until the sun goes down.

No medical conclusion has been reached as to why this occurs. But, when in the middle of a  conversation Dad sees a Marine Corp Band marching across the waters of the May River and  wants to discuss what celebration might bring them  there, do you play along or do you try to reason out that its just can't be happening?
