What this well presented glossy clip doesn't touch upon is that sexual abuse of children is often carried out by a parent or close family member. Inwhich case parents comforting the abused child would be out of the question in this case. Often even the other parent is complicit in the abuse. This leaves sexually abused children without comfort from parents - devastating, and as such healing is much more difficult and longer work.
I agree that when parents or other family members are the ones who have abused the children, it’s very challenging for kids to come forward and to receive the help they need. I see how difficult it is for my clients who are now adults, some of whom were abused by fathers or siblings or even mothers. Many are only able to deal with the abuse later in life, which can be difficult. But I do believe that healing is possible. I see it everyday as a coach, and I’ve experienced it as a survivor, and I am constantly amazed by the strength of the human spirit and our ability to be thrive in spite of what happened early in life. I believe we can TRANSCEND whatever life hands us, though it isn’t necessarily an easy road …
