I've been trying to answer all the emails coming in and suspect there are a number of you wanting to know how to get a hold of the doctors at MetroHealth who are doing this new procedure. The number there Is: 216-778-5890. Please do not hesitate to ask questions here, as well.
I have a cyst on one of my ovaries and fibroids. I have been plagued with heavy bleeding and ablation didn't work for me. My doctor said my next option would be hysterectomy. At first I was horrfied but at this point, I'm so sick of the bleeding, the irritability and the pain. Can I still be able to have this type of hysterectomy even though I have this large cyst and fibroids?
DExorder - Absolutely!
Great info! Thanks.
Does this procedure make it less complicated to regulate hormonal levels afterward? So many of my girlfriends who have gotten hysterectomies have struggled with getting their hormonal levels back on track. Thank you.
Mary Ann -- The actual procedure is the same on the "inside." Hormone levels usually don't change if only the uterus is removed. If the ovaries are removed, that triggers menopause if the woman hasn't already gone through it. Sometimes the stress of a surgery can take a while to recover from, and that may be playing a role in your friends' cases (if their ovaries were not removed). We need more data/research to see if the stress placed on your body if less with a single port laparoscopy. Thanks for commenting!
